Michelle Moon Cloud

In the far reaches of the Indian realm,
Before the European Quest,
The true native American tribes
Were happy east and west.

There's one particular story came down,
Surviving through the years,
The tale of Michelle Moon Cloud,
Falling Rocks and Running Deer.

Michelle was a young, pretty Chieftain's daughter.
She was striking, you might say.
And Falling Rocks and Running Deer
Were the bravest of their day.

They both were in love with Princess Michelle
So to a contest they were bound,
And whichever won would walk with her
Through the High Spirits Marriage Ground.

Through fourteen days of grueling trials
Of races, hunts, and fights,
Both Falling Rocks and Running Deer
Were busy both days and nights.

Then on a cougar chase one day,
Falling Rocks disappeared,
Michelle Mooon Cloud had lost her love
For Falling Rocks she did choose.

And still today on mountain trails
There's traces of that scene.
When you see a sign, "Watch For Falling Rocks,"
You'll know what it really means.
